1 oz. Silver American Eagle
The U.S. Mint began production of the American Silver Eagle in 1986, America’s only official investment-grade silver bullion coin. The coin is .999 fine silver, has a $1 face value and contains one troy ounce of silver plus a small amount of copper to enhance the coins durability. The figure on the obverse of the coin is mirrored after the “Walking Liberty” design on the 1917 silver half-dollar. The reverse depicts an eagle and a shield, symbolizing American strength and pride. While the coins can be purchased individually, they are packaged at the mint in 20-coin tubes, 25 tubes to a “monster” box (500 coins total).
