$20 Gold – St. Gaudens
The Unites States 20 dollar gold piece, also known as a double eagle, was minted with the Augustus Saint-Gaudens design from 1907 to 1933. It is considered by many to be the most beautiful of the U.S. coins. The coin’s composition is 90% gold and 10% copper with a pure gold content of .9675 troy ounces. The obverse shows Saint-Gaudens depiction of Liberty holding a torch and an olive branch, backed by rays of the sun, and the reverse has an eagle in flight, backed by rays of the sun. The condition and rarity of these coins determine their value in the collector market. Coins in very poor condition generally are bought and sold for their gold content.
