French 20 Franc
The French 20 Franc coin pictured here is the Rooster design, which shows an oak leaf encircling liberty head, a symbol of the nation’s Third Republic, on the obverse and a large, fully plumed rooster on the reverse encircled with the phrase “Liberte Egalite Fraternite” (freedom, equality, fraternity). The mintage period for this version of the 20 franc was from 1907-1914. There were two previous designs for the 20 franc, the Napoleon (1853-1870) and the Angel (1899-1906), all produced with the same purity. The coins are 21.6-karats, containing .1867 troy ounces of gold.
