Gold 1 oz – Krugerrand
The 22-karat South African Krugerrand was introduced in 1967, making it one of the first bullion coins available and today is the most widely owned of the modern bullion coins. The Krugerrand is produced by the South African Mint, bears the effigy of Paul Kruger, the first president of the South African Republic, on the obverse and a springbok on the reverse. The coin consists of one ounce of pure gold and an alloy of copper and silver, giving it a purity of .916 fine gold. Also available are fractional Krugerrands in 1/2, 1/4, and 1/10th of an ounce sizes (minimum orders may apply for fractional coins).
