The American Numismatic Association’s (ANA) 2013 World’s Fair of Money coin show was held last week in Rosemont, IL (near Chicago) and we were fortunate enough to attend the last day of the show. There were literally several billion dollars worth of rare coins, currency and precious metals on display and for sale. Over 500 dealers from across the country set up booths there and mints from around the world were present, including South Africa, Austria, Canada, China, Australia and the U.S. Many dealers had sold out of inventory and were closing up halfway through Saturday. It was apparently a very successful show.
We were also very privileged to attend a small, private seminar hosted by the Perth Mint to showcase their 2014 gold and silver bullion coin launch, featuring the new designs for the gold and silver Lunar Horse, gold kangaroo, silver kookaburra and koala and the platinum platypus coins. Each of the coins has a staggered release over the next four months. Once we have the launch video available for the new coins, we will make it available on the website for all our clients to see.
The general consensus expressed among those we visited was upbeat and optimistic regarding the precious metals market. Business conditions are expected to improve for the rest of 2013 and into 2014 and it is believed that the bottom and slowdown is now behind us.
